I love Jesus, my family and the Church.
We live on the West Coast of BC, Canada. My wife, Heidi and two amazing kids are my primary source of encouragement. We love each other deeply and work hard at keeping our relationships top priority. We enjoy picnics, ball hockey, road trips, the Vancouver Canucks and all varieties of good ethnic food.
Personally, I have rediscovered my love for road cycling thanks to a good friend Harv Bergen (check out his local shop Lifecyles). Cycling is my most productive time for creative thinking. It burns extra calories too, go figure!
I am an optimist and I am usually with people, which means I see potential in everyone and every community. I appreciate dreaming big but enjoy even more seeing people realize their dreams. I believe taking risks is part of what comprises ‘normal life’ for a disciple of Jesus. And so, I have given my life to calling people to move outside of the assumed comfort zones, into a life of radical mission. It is a passion of mine to see the current dearth of available short-term mission opportunities more productively build the Church, both ‘here’ and ‘there.’
I am called to mobilize the whole church to reach the whole world.
I have worked with MB Mission for the past 12 years in numerous roles of leadership and management. In my current role, as Mobilization Coordinator, I oversee the development and delivery of our short-term mission programs across the U.S. and Canada. I also resource local churches on issues of discipleship and global church planting – managing a full itinerary of speaking and preaching engagements. Contact me anytime!
I enjoy all forms of communication; I am blogging @ www.samdick.org. The blog is a gathering place for discussions related to mission, discipleship and leadership. It is a personal blog however; my goal is to provide stimulating and relevant resources for anyone to put into good practical use, in both personal and ministry life. Come for a visit - let’s see where it goes!
My short-term mission experience developed throughout 1992-96 as I served on teams with MB Mission in countries like Venezuela, Peru, and Thailand. I lived for one year in Kinshasa, DR Congo 1996-97 where the assignment was to teach on leadership and discipleship (in reality I spent much time in local churches learning how they survive unspeakable economic and political realities). In 1998-99, I participated on a TREK team which traveled as a performing arts troupe across North America speaking in churches, colleges and youth groups. As a team we grew to love what God was doing in our Mennonite Brethren congregations everywhere.
My first staff assignment with MB Mission came in 2000 as team leader for the TREK program. The TREK program facilitates dynamic training and mission opportunities world-wide. From 2005-2007 as Regional Mobilizer for BC, I served our 110 local MB churches by mobilizing prayer, people and resources for global church planting. In 2008 to date, I serve as Mobilization Coordinator, a position I thoroughly enjoy and described in brief above.
