The recent flooding in Peru has left thousands of people homeless, destroyed businesses and crops, and accelerated the spread of disease and sickness… and it’s still raining! Many of our MB churches in Peru were birthed in another “El Nino” season in 1982-83 when MB Mission responded to an invitation to help with relief and development and to proclaim the Good News of Jesus.

The term “El Nino” actually means “little child” and is a reference to the Christ child. Can God redeem this disaster and once again reveal his Son to those in Peru who are in desperate need?

Our long-term workers in the region, Stacey Kuhns and Joanna Chapa, have been working hard with local churches to provide emergency food and cleanup assistance. This brief video gives you a window on their current story:

We are partnering with other Latin American MB Conferences, MCC, MWC and ICOMB to respond to this disaster. Together we are praying for God to provide a disaster relief coordinator who loves the Gospel and loves people.

I’ve been meditating recently on the scarlet cord Rahab hung from her house in Jericho. The word cord is “tiqwa” and it means hope. We see that word used in several other places including Hosea 2:15: “And there I will give her vineyards and make the Valley of Achor a door of hope.” God used trouble in the life of Israel as a door of hope, and he wants to do the same thing in our lives and in troubled places around the world. Jesus is our hope. He is the door to life. Join us in praying, giving and serving in troubled places where God is looking to bring redemption

Physical slavery is prevalent around the world; it takes many forms. Individuals and people groups are in bondage. Guest speaker, Randy Friesen has seen the amazing power of the Gospel to bring freedom to the oppressed. In our own lives, we can find ourselves enslaved – to sin and to fear. How can we be free? Knowing who we are in Christ is vital to our freedom.
