March 2017

There will be over 200 participants from around the world, representing all 22 MB conferences. Leaders from the house church movement in North Africa will be meeting with established conference leadership from India and Congo. Emerging leaders from across Asia will be getting to know church planters from Brazil and Paraguay. Despite very different cultures and realities, we are united in Christ and in his transforming Gospel. It should be an exciting week of learning from one another and listening to the Lord together.

I’ve been reminded that Paul planted churches in many different cultural contexts, yet he lived and shared the same Gospel. In his first letter to the Thessalonians, Paul exclaims that their “faith in God has become known everywhere” (1:8). Paul reminds them that the Gospel didn’t come to them simply with words, “but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction” (1:5). This Spirit-filled Gospel is very evident in the growing Church of the global South. Paul goes on to remind the Thessalonians of his incarnational witness to the Gospel, the price he had to pay to share it and the joy that resulted. It is this Spirit-filled, incarnational, costly and joyful Gospel that we will be celebrating this week and recommitting ourselves to live and share in the various contexts in which we serve.

I’m convinced that we need each other in the global Church to remain faithful to the fullness of this transforming Gospel. We’re praying for missional action plans and prayer-filled spiritual renewal practices to emerge from this mission and prayer consultation. Will you please join me in prayer for the same outcomes?

Physical slavery is prevalent around the world; it takes many forms. Individuals and people groups are in bondage. Guest speaker, Randy Friesen has seen the amazing power of the Gospel to bring freedom to the oppressed. In our own lives, we can find ourselves enslaved – to sin and to fear. How can we be free? Knowing who we are in Christ is vital to our freedom.
