December 2017

After over two years of discernment, discussions and prayer at every level of church and conference life the Canadian MB conference of churches affirmed at their special general meeting in early November that the C2C church planting network join MB Mission. The MB Mission board committed to keeping global mission donations and financial statements separate from the C2C finances, while providing a single governance covering for the two ministries. In this same season, both the Canadian and US MB conferences are restructuring to better serve local churches in ministry. The ministry silos are coming down and we are working toward “one mission – local, national and global.”

A number of years ago I was invited to an all day meeting of short term mission leaders from different denominations. I didn’t know any of the other leaders present. During the opening worship time I sensed the Holy Spirit asking me to repent. “Repent on behalf of your denomination for independence and pride.” This was a new thought for me and I struggled with it. Finally, during a pause in the worship I spoke out those words to the group. What happened next surprised me. I began to cry. More than cry, I was sobbing deeply. I felt deep grief for the way independence and pride had separated Christ’s body. The other leaders gathered around me to pray, but soon found themselves on their knees repenting on behalf of their denominations. We spent several hours that day on the floor getting right with God and one another. Out of that time of repentance the Lord birthed a global discipleship in mission training alliance which currently links tens of thousands of young leaders in mission training programs and church planting around the world. God needed to lower our silos to lead us forward in new mission vision. Could God be doing the same things amongst us today?

In this season of celebrating God’s generous gift to us in Jesus, I want to thank you for your generous support for MB Mission and your prayers for us in our expanded mission mandate.
