I love how the Holy Spirit connects the Body of Christ in mission! This past week I attended the USMB biannual national convention in Salt Lake City, Utah. One of the guests who joined us was the pastor of large church in southern Venezuela who described desperate conditions of food shortages, gasoline rations and a currency that is in a free fall (annual inflation is currently over 20,000%!). People cannot afford to drive, eat or study. Worship attendance means walking many miles, resulting in plummeting numbers. The people of God are crying out for relief and a change of leadership.

I sent this Venezuelan pastor’s contact information to our Latin American regional team leader – Emerson Cardoso from Brazil. He quickly texted me back that he was speaking at that very moment with our Chinese MB pastor from Caracas at a mission consultation they were attending together in Paraguay! He linked the two churches for ongoing support. When I shared that God story the next morning at the convention, the USMB delegates decided to send their whole special offering to the suffering Venezuelan church! Emerson texted again to say that the morning before he had received my text the mission consultation delegates in Paraguay were praying for mission opportunities in the region. God led them to intercede for Venezuela although they had no current projects in the country! They received the text from the USMB convention as confirmation that the Lord was leading them to invest in Venezuela!

The Holy Spirit is still leading the mission of the God! “While they were worshipping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” (Acts 13:2) The Holy Spirit is still connecting available servants and resources for assignments in the mission of God. There is no greater honor than to be used by the Lord to extend His kingdom. I invite you to join us in praying at 10:02 am each morning the mobilization prayer of Jesus when he commanded his disciples to ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest field!” (Luke 10:2) At the convention last week the whole room chimed with people’s watches and phone alarms set to 10:02. God wants to use each of us to both pray and then be part of the answer to that prayer! Will you join us in the harvest?

Physical slavery is prevalent around the world; it takes many forms. Individuals and people groups are in bondage. Guest speaker, Randy Friesen has seen the amazing power of the Gospel to bring freedom to the oppressed. In our own lives, we can find ourselves enslaved – to sin and to fear. How can we be free? Knowing who we are in Christ is vital to our freedom.
