The Wisdom of God

"Have you ever noticed that sometimes when you ask God a question, His answer doesn't seem to match the initial inquiry? What does that tell you? Perhaps the things that we sometimes have the tendency to focus on aren't as important to God as we think!"

These are a few of the recent ponderings of Kevin and Karlene Klassen. The Klassens are part of a holistic church planting team in Southern Thailand called Operation 2nd Wave (O2W). They are learning God often answers the deeper questions, not the surface ones. God patiently continues to re-align our questions and desires. He wants our focus to centre upon Him and what He is actually doing - not on what we assume or think He should be doing.

For some time now the Klassens, along with the rest of the O2W team, have been seeking the Lord's will for many aspects regarding their new, church plant. Among other things, they have been discussing and praying about placement of the church building, timing, methods and what form this particular church plant should take. The Klassens share about how God is re-aligning their questions and desires closer to the core of His heart:

"We find it interesting that as we have sought the Lord about [these particular things], He has often responded with encouragement in areas of character, humility, worship and heart matters - all the while reassuring us that He has all things under control.

"Most recently, we set aside specific time to seek the Lord with regards to the form that we should concentrate on as we plant churches. Although there were some common themes that emerged from our time of prayer, it became apparent that God was far more interested in talking to us about deeper matters.

"He reminded us, once again, that all of this is for Him. He shares His glory with no one. He continually speaks to us about the power of praise and worship. [He impresses upon us] the need for prayer and intercession on behalf of others. It's so easy to fall into a trap of thinking like the world thinks, believing that what is missing is a proper method, form or strategy. We are tempted to think that the kingdom of God can be attained through human reasoning.

"Peter tried to convince Jesus that going to the cross just might not be the best idea (Matthew 16:21-23). In the same way, if we listen carefully, we can hear Jesus saying, ‘You do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.'

"[We] praise God for His constant reminders that His thoughts are not like our thoughts (1 Corinthians 2:11-12,16)... In fact, ‘The foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength' (1 Corinthians 1:25, 27).

"[We] also praise God for a team that is so dependent on God. They refuse to go forward unless it is by the power and direction of God through the Holy Spirit. We have many smart, talented and gifted people on our team. But these things have been laid down in favor of submission to the One who knows all things and will act according to His good purpose."

The Klassens know God desires to align their hearts and thoughts to His own. They look forward to seeing the fruits of this process in their new church plant. Join with the Klassens in prayer, as they seek the wisdom of God, not of man.

"For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:16
