Keep on Keeping On

God has been stirring in Mrs. K’s heart to help her understand the importance of persevering in the face of trails. Mrs. K, of Toyota City, Japan, trusted Christ as her saviour eight years ago, but three years after making this commitment, she separated herself from church and bible study.

Because of the pressure she was facing from her unsaved husband and extended family members, she decided that it was easier to give up on her church family. However, this past week – five years after she stopped going to church – out of the blue, Mrs. K showed up at Laurence and Leona Hiebert’s Ladies’ Bible Study!

Mrs. K admitted to Laurence how lonely and wearing her walk with God had been without having a community of other Christians to help her along. Though it took all of the courage that she had in her to come to bible study, she knew that she couldn’t go without fellowship any longer. Mrs. K is trying to overcome the feelings of shame involved with being away from the church for so long, but she knew that Laurence and Leona would welcome her back with open arms. As God continues to pursue her, pray that shame would not have a stronghold on her life and that she would plunge herself deeply into God’s grace and love!

Mrs. K has come to recognize the importance of persevering under trail. As she told Laurence, she realized that it is simple to do something for a short time, but real value only comes when we endure over the long-haul! Mrs. K has seen evidence of this fact in Laurence and Leona’s ministry – because they continue to trust in God and pour out his love into the people of Japan, God has grown his church in Toyota City.

Praise the Lord that Mrs. K has returned to her church family. But praise him also, that she now understands her need to walk with God in fellowship with other believers everyday. Pray that Mrs. K’s husband and extended family would come to know Christ, and that Mrs. K would persevere in her faith, no matter what trials she may encounter.

Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. Romans 5:3-5
